Introducing Lizzie...

If you haven't met Lizzie yet, then where have you been? You might have seen Lizzie’s contagious smile in the cafe behind the coffee machine, and has now joined the Commonfolk partnerships and wholesale team. Here’s a little insight into the world of Lizzie:

How did you get into coffee?

I first got into coffee when I lived in London 8 years ago. I worked for Department of Coffee & Social Affairs, a favourite coffee shop of mine whilst living there. I was in need of a full time job that would still be flexible enough for me to do as much travel as possible whilst living abroad. I started on front of house but quickly wanted on that machine! Over my time with them I worked my way through their coffee training regime and voila, here we are!

When did you realise it was the career for you?

When I realised there was so much to learn and immerse myself in within the industry I was hooked!

Tell us something about you most people don't know.

I am also a florist & I have a sweet little side hustle, Bloomin' Heck Flowers (shameless plug)

What's your go to coffee origin / producer?

Without any bias, my favourite producer at the moment is most definitely Zukuka Bora! The quality of the coffees they produce is just next level. They are doing amazing things! + anything from Mexico!

What's your quick tip for making the perfect cup?

Pre-heat your cup and put a chunk of love into it!

Go to coffee drink of choice?

Batch brew

 Best era for music?

50's, most preferably Rhythm & Blues

 Tommy T or The Badger?

CASEY! + i love everyone equally

 Why Commonfolk?

Cause they're bloody legends! + The philosophy held by everyone at Commonfolk is one that is extremely admirable - Good coffee for good people made with love! It is a place where anyone can come and be a part of a beautiful community and where everyone cares about each other and what they are producing.

 What's your spirit animal?

Golden retriever

What's your hope for the future of the coffee industry?

That it keeps getting bigger and better with equal opportunities for everyone involved, most importantly producers/growers in less privileged countries.

 Introducing Mark…

We are so excited to have Mark join the Folker crew as the new Partnerships Manager. Fresh from The Hatter + the Hare, Mark is the true definition of a coffee frother and his answers to our interview questions are literally everything, check them out below.

How did you get into coffee?

Coffee got into me........its coarse, rough and it gets everywhere

But seriously Star Wars inspired quotes aside, coffee is one of those things that just hooks you in. The further you delve into it, the more you get hooked.

When did you realise it was the career for you?

If you're lucky enough to find something you're passionate about, that drives you, chase it.

If it is also one of the first few things you think of when you wake up ..... I guess it's meant to be (or you're addicted).

Tell us something about you most people don't know?

I was nearly called Wolfgang. My father pulled rank and called me Mark. Thank you Dad.

What's your go to coffee origin / producer?

Ethiopian - Sidamo - Ardi is probably one of the most versatile coffees I've brewed. Also really enjoyed some Costa Rica from the Tarrazu region recently.

What's your quick tip to making the perfect cup?

Consistency and some love

Go to coffee drink of choice?

Barista breakfast with an afternoon pour over is my usual routine. But if I had to pick one. I do love a good flatty

 Best era for music?

I'm a 90s alternative/rock/grunge/pop boy through and through hahaha

 Tommy T or The Badger?

por qué no los dos ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 Why Commonfolk?

It tastes good & feels even better.

 What's your spirit animal?

Well according to my star sign I'm a deer, but to be honest I would have to go with donkey.

What's your hope for the future of the coffee industry?

That all stakeholders work towards genuinely sustainable practices and build mutually beneficial partnerships.

And there you have it Folkers! If you see Lizzie and Mark around make sure you say g’day. And on behalf of the Folker family, we are so excited to have you aboard the Commonfolk partnerships and wholesale team. We just know that you guys are going to be doing amazing things! Watch this space.
