Thanks 2020, its been real 🙄

So 2020 hey... what a year.

In March the Commonfolk team was scrambling to come up with ways to stay in business and trying to weather the storm that was unleashed on the entire world.

Covid really hit us for six.

There was a brief period where the future of our little roastery and cafe was up in the air.

But in true Commonfolk form our entire community dug deep to keep the roasters burning. A huge thank you goes out to all our loyal customers for pouring Commonfolk throughout 2020. Cheers to the cafe goers who pivoted towards brewing coffee at home. Cheers to all the home brewers who popped in for a cheeky takeaway [within their 5k of course!]. And a huge thank you to all our wholesale partners who dug deep and kept supporting us in whichever way they could.

Because of the incredible support we received we managed to honour all of our coffee contracts with our farming partners, we even added some new partnerships to our catalogue. We roasted over 50 unique coffees from 15 different producing countries, and enough beans to brew over 4 million cups of coffee [that's a lot of coffee!]. We managed to keep 45 people employed across our roastery, cafe and cold brew businesses, expanded our roastery into the factory next door, and now into next doors next door, we even gave the old cafe bar the TLC it both needed and deserved.

But perhaps our proudest achievement was that despite all the adversity we faced The Cup That Counts still managed to send more than 20k to Zukuka Bora to help them expand their operations. It also donated more than 11k worth of coffee to HomeGround and as we head into 2021 we're looking for an additional local partner to support. Every cup of coffee we sold made this possible, and you made it happen.

A fair effort for what was the most difficult year that our small business has ever faced. As far as we're concerned 2020 can bugger off. Bring on 2021 and a whole heap more tasty brews.
