Good Coffee Month 26

This year we need to raise $25,000 to build a wet mill for Zukuka Bora at Sipi Falls

Help us raise

$25,000

to build a wet mill for Zukuka Bora at Sipi Falls.

Every year, we ask cafes and coffee drinkers to join us in funding a major project through The Cup That Counts.

The Cup That Counts is a registered charity that invests in projects making the coffee industry fairer for everyone involved. One of those projects supports Zukuka Bora, one of our coffee partners in Uganda. Good Coffee Month is how we extend the invitation to everyone else.

A dollar from every kilo. A coffee on Good Coffee Day. A straight-up donation. It adds up to a better coffee industry for all.

Why a wet mill?

Right now Zukuka Bora’s Sipi site can float cherry and dry naturals, but it can’t process washed coffee. Every washed lot goes on a truck for an hour to Muyanda, costing money and putting quality at risk. A wet mill means cherry can be pulped the day it’s picked. Better coffee earns farmers a better price.

Washed coffee, washed in Sipi.

Right now, coffee gets trucked out of Sipi to be washed, and the jobs go with it. With a wet mill, the pulping, fermenting, washing and drying can all happen in Sipi, which means more opportunities for employment for the local community.

More work, closer to home.

Zukuka Bora already has a permanent home in Sipi, where they buy cherry and dry natural and experimental lots. A wet mill turns that site into a full processing station. This investment in Uganda’s most famous coffee region shows long-term commitment to the farmers of Sipi.

Putting down deeper roots.

How to get involved

Take part in Good Coffee Month through November. Cafe partners can switch to a Good Coffee version of their house blend, with $1 from every kilo sold donated. The same goes for every kilo of single origin.

Not a Commonfolk partner? It doesn’t matter.

Take part in Good Coffee Day on Saturday 28 November. Participating cafes donate $1 from every coffee sold on the day. Or guest pour us for the month. Cafes pouring our single origins still donate $1 from every kilo.

Pour good coffee this November.

Drink a coffee from any venue on the list below during November, or on Good Coffee Day, Saturday 28 November, and you’ll be making a difference.

If you’re brewing at home, grab any bag of Commonfolk single origin, online or in our cafes, and $1 from every kilo goes to the goal.

Every kilo of single origin we roast this November donates $1 towards the mill.

    Why we do it

We don’t just do this once a year.

Since we opened, we’ve donated 20c to The Cup That Counts from every cup we brew and every kilo we roast. We’ve backed projects like Zukuka Bora for the long haul, but it’s not just about donations.

Partnership is how we buy, roast and sell coffee all year round. That means long-term relationships with the producers we work with, and showing how the coffee industry can work when the goal is coffee that’s good for everyone.

Good Coffee Month is the chance for cafes and coffee drinkers to join us, and give something back to the people behind the coffee we all enjoy.
