Meet the team - Ollie, Mark + Brogan
We sat down with the crew at the helm of Commonfolk Mornington, and asked them some sticky questions 😉 Read on to see what Mark - Head Chef, Ollie - Venue Manager, and Brogan - Head Barista had to say.
Why Commonfolk/ hospo?
BROGAN - Well, Summer Ellis got me the job at Commonfolk, and I just really love being around people.
MARK - I’ve always wanted to be a chef, ever since I was a little boy, and obviously, I love coffee!
OLLIE - I really enjoy the service industry, the people you work with are amazing and it’s fun to work in an industry that makes people happy and Commonfolk was a local that I had visited in lockdown.
Favourite extracurricular activities? Keep it clean ;)
BROGAN - Riding my new bicycle 🚴♀️
MARK - Surfing Rye back bench 🏄🏻♂️
OLLIE - *snap* Mark stole my answer. Alright, maybe having a couple of beers with mates, playing golf ⛳️ AND surfing Rye back beach 🏄🏻♂️
Favourite movie and why?
MARK - Hard to pick an all time favourite, but I’ll go with ‘The Gentlemen’. I just love Guy Ritchie’s movies, the ups and downs, the slang and language, all the twists and turns, I find it really entertaining. Him and Tarantino are my faves.
OLLIE - I really like the movie ‘Good Time’. It sheds a light on mental illness, manipulation, and it’s just really well shot.
BROGAN - ‘Arry Potter’! can’t pick a favourite, all of the them. (Side note - Much discussion broke out over the fact that not one of us other than Brogan had seen a single Harry Potter film. Brogan then expressed her distaste for ‘Lord of the Rings’ and Ollie quashed her opinion.)
If you were stuck in an elevator with a bunch of strangers, what would your ‘go-to’ topic of conversation be?
BROGAN - ‘Arry Potter’ 😂 nah! Yeah actually Harry Potter!
MARK - I’d keep it lighthearted and fun, with maybe a bit of trivia. Things like colours of flags, countries of Africa, that kind of thing.
OLLIE - I’d ask everyone if they knew about ‘Slime Mould’. Learn about it, and then we’ll have a conversation in an elevator.
Now for the high brow questions… Broccoli for hair or Sticks for legs?
BROGAN - Whats high brow? I think sticks for legs, like twiggy sticks. They’d go nicely with some of my outfits.
MARK - Broccoli for hair because I’ve got perfectly good legs but I don’t have hair!
OLLIE - I’d definitely go broccoli for hair, it’s a lot more functional than having sticks for legs. You can trim broccoli, your legs are literally going to snap if they’re sticks and you jump off something.
BROGAN - Well I like twigs OK.
Fave menu item?
BROGAN - Smashed avo, no sides. NO MEAT, ok maybe a poached egg 💁♀️
MARK - Smashed avo, because its my dish 😉 and I’d add smoked salmon and a poached egg 🥑🥚
OLLIE - Vego brekkie bun with smoked salmon. It’s so good, it’s actually unreal. Try it!
