Legendary Pull

Look, we’re not ashamed to admit it, we jumped heavily on a pop culture trend last year. Some people loved “Pink Pony Coffee Club”, others missed The Unicorn. Who are we to not give the people what they want? So Unicorn returns, and also a return to an old label designed by Commonfolk’s very own Head Roaster, Alisha.

Bududa has been contributing to Zukuka Bora (ZB) from even the early days, when ZB’s entire export was only coming to Australia. But, Bududa’s topography and general location always made it hard for cherry to be purchased and when faced with steep inclines and frequent landslides, direct connection to producers in Bududa was very tricky. Pair this with Bududa’s proximity to Kenya, where coffee pirates purchase cherry from the local producers under market, then sell it over the border in Kenya for a tidy profit. With ZB located well over an hour away, this became a touch of a problem.

In 2023, ZB stepped up and purchased some land in Bududa, with help from funds raised through The Cup That Counts. With a place to have boots on the ground and purchase all harvest long, ZB has enabled the producers of Bududa to get to market for a better price and easier access. A truly mythical setup.

Whilst we’ve had a few iterations of Unicorn, this year may be the most legendary yet. Bright green grape, and pink apple sweetness. A hint of sour and bitter charred pineapple, all underlined by patisserie chocolate. Zukuka Bora and the producers of the Bududa region consistently blow us away with this coffee.

Did you know 20c from every kilogram of coffee roasted and every cup sold goes to The Cup That Counts.
