High in Burundi’s Muramvya Province, Ninga is a community that has weathered more than its share of hardship. During the violent conflicts of the 1990s and 2000s, families were forced to scatter into the surrounding forests, leaving their farms and coffee trees untended. The trees slipped into a kind of hibernation, waiting for their owners to return years later to rebuild from scratch. Even today, Ninga remains isolated without electricity and far from major trade routes, yet its farmers continue to craft coffees of remarkable elegance. Long Miles Coffee has been working with these farming families to change that. Coffee Scouts walk the hills each week, teaching pruning, mulching and shade-tree planting to improve both yield and quality. Farmers are rewarded not only with higher prices but also with long-term investment in the land itself. Through the Trees for Kibira project, hundreds of thousands of indigenous shade trees have already been planted across the region. These trees stabilise fragile soils, restore biodiversity and provide future generations with a shield against the harshest effects of climate change. The Ninga Washing Station, Long Miles’ newest, was built to serve this once-distant community. Here, whole cherries are hand-sorted, floated and dried slowly in their skins for nearly a month until they reach just the right balance of sweetness and structure. Expect a burst of ripe blueberry brightness, soft floral notes of lavender and a buttery shortbread sweetness that lingers long after the cup is finished. Another classic and complex coffee from Burundi that we are excited to share with you. Thank you to Long Miles and the Osito team for supporting great things.

Did you know 20c from every kilogram of coffee roasted and every cup sold goes to The Cup That Counts.
