Elias Roa, Tamana, you know the names. Let’s get into the goodness.
We always cup the pre-ship samples of Diego and his father-in-law’s coffees together, it’s one of the highlights of the year (twice a year, we love a flight crop). This time we were lucky enough to secure some of the coveted SL28 from Tamana. SL28 is one of the most flavour-packed varietals in the world, and when grown in Colombia’s rich volcanic soils at high elevation, it reaches truly exceptional levels of complexity. This lot we’re getting blah blah, with blah blah and some blah to even it out.
Elias Roa, Bellani, and their family haven’t just built Finca Tamana, they’ve nurtured it. Ever since Elias acquired the land in 2011, he’s been transforming degraded soil into a flourishing 57-hectare estate between El Pital and La Plata in Huila. Their methods are increasingly mindful: diversifying varieties by pushing hard-to-grow gems like SL28, Geisha (remember Humble Pie?) and Pink Bourbon alongside more stable cultivars, while investing in regenerative soil work and infrastructure improvements. It’s not just all about the beans, it’s about the people, too. Elias and Bellani invest in their team: higher wages, better working conditions, meals and lodging for seasonal workers, and kindness. Workers return year after year because they are seen, supported, and paid fairly. To Elias, that’s part of quality. Every small piece of care. Soil health, cherry pickers, drying houses it all builds up. The result? Coffee that tastes like patience, passion, and purpose. Good Coffee.
Did you know 20c from every kilogram of coffee roasted and every cup sold goes to The Cup That Counts.
